Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia

Chronic myelogenous leukemia develops from white blood cells, which help defend the body against germs. The two types of cells involved are the ones that kill most forms of bacteria, and are essential to the effective function of lymphocytes, which produce antibodies. CML symptoms, which typically develop gradually, include fatigue, unexplained weight loss, shortness of breath, and a pale complexion due to anemia. CML is diagnosed by taking a sample of blood and bone marrow tissue and is most successfully treated by bone marrow transplant.
